Summary
On my first day at the firm, Elliott put my desk directly across from his office.
It was the best spot on the floor, flooded with New England morning light. Everyone in the office whispered that it was his special treatment for me, his girlfriend of three years.
Until Lorraine Albright returned from London.
The email from HR arrived at nine in the morning, telling me to pack up my things and move to the small office adjacent to the basement archives before the end of the day. They said Elliott himself had requested the switch to accommodate Lorraine.
