Summary

I had finally found the emergency debit card in the back of the dresser—the one Nathaniel kept our $50,000 "rainy day" fund in. I was sprinting through the hospital lobby, chest burning, my eyes locked on the billing window, when two police officers stepped into my path.
Behind them stood my husband, Nathaniel Harper. His face was a mask of cold, calculated fury.
"Officer, that’s her," Nathaniel said, his voice steady and clinical. "Riley Harper. I’m reporting a theft of marital assets.
