Summary
On the day of my wedding, my mother showed up uninvited.
She walked right up to my fiancé, leaned in, and whispered something into his ear.
It was the exact same thing she had done years ago—the whisper that had ended my father’s life.
It was my dad’s birthday. He had his eyes squeezed shut, making a wish over the flickering candles of his cake, when my mother leaned in and murmured something only he could hear.
My father, a man who was utterly terrified of dying, opened his eyes, stood up, and immediately threw himself off our second-story balcony.
