Summary
At the city clerk’s office, when it came time to sign our marriage license, Corey didn’t write my name.
Instead, his pen glided across the paper with a practiced, muscle-memory ease, and wrote my best friend’s name instead.
The clerk froze. I stared at the paper, my chest tightening.
Melanie snatched the pen from his hand, quickly crossing out the name with a sharp, nervous laugh.
"Corey, did you lose your mind staying up late with me last night?" she teased, her voice dripping with mock exasperation. "You don’t even know your own wife’s name."
