Summary
The day I walked through the wrought-iron gates carrying the faded missing-person flier, my father was standing over an imported marble range, ladling homemade chicken soup into a porcelain bowl for Claudia—the woman who had quietly stolen my mother’s entire life.
When he turned and saw me standing in the vaulted foyer, his hands went limp.
The bowl hit the tile with a wet, echoing crack, broth and porcelain shards splattering across his polished leather loafers.
