Summary

“You’re just a balance sheet transaction to her, Chase,” Trevor Hayes said, tilting his scotch so the ice clicked against the glass. “Her first love was me.”
I looked up toward the dais at Jocelyn.
She kept her gaze cast down at her leather-bound portfolio, completely still. She didn’t deny it. She didn’t offer an explanation. She didn’t even glance my way.
I nodded once, set my napkin beside my plate, and let the room have its spectacle.
