Summary
One in the morning, and my phone rang. It was my mom.
"Honey, the Evans boy downstairs… his parents died in a car crash. It's just awful. He's all alone. Can't you do something to help him?"
I yawned. "Mom, I only make five thousand a month. How am I supposed to help him?"
A few minutes later, she called back.
"He's got that limp, he can't find a job. Why don't you talk to your boss, see if they can give him a position at your company?"
Drowning in sleep, I mumbled a few noncommittal words.
Half an hour later, the ringing jolted me awake again.
