Never to Return

Chapter 1

34,230 words

In the seventh year of her marriage to Daniel Horton, Quinn White overheard her son ask in a naive voice, "Dad, why can't Aunt Charlotte be my mom?"

Quinn froze.

Did he mean Charlotte Scott, Daniel's first love?

Before she could process whether she had misheard, a speeding car hurtled straight toward her son. Instinctively, Quinn charged forward and pushed her son out of harm's way.

The massive impact caused her to lose consciousness. When she woke up, Quinn let out a sigh of relief as she looked at her husband and son standing by the hospital bed, completely unharmed.

She was about to reassure them she was fine when her son's painful question echoed in her mind. Spurred by an impulse, she put on a bewildered look.

"I'm sorry, but I can't remember anything right now."

The two standing before the hospital bed were caught off guard for a second before immediately ringing the bell to call the doctor over.

After a thorough examination, the doctor reached a conclusion.

"A blood clot formed in the patient's brain following the car accident, which will lead to temporary amnesia."

Once the doctor left, Quinn maintained that same bewildered act. "How did I end up in a car accident? Who are you, and what do you have to do with me?"

Daniel frowned, opening his mouth to speak, when a gleeful childish voice cut him off.

"You're the family nanny!"

Chapter 1

In an instant, the words that Quinn White had carefully prepared got stuck in her throat.

She stared at the child she had carried for nine months in disbelief.

"N-nanny?" she repeated.

"Yes," Levi Horton answered without hesitation. "Why else would Dad and I be by your hospital bed?"

Quinn did not say anything. She stared fixedly at Levi, desperately searching his face for any hint of a joke.

Perhaps, in the next second, he would rush to her bed, take her hand, and act like a spoiled child. He would tell her that he had known all along she was only pretending, and that he was just playing along with her.

However, to her disappointment, Levi looked completely serious. He even pulled Daniel Horton's sleeve in a solemn, businesslike manner.

"Dad, Nanny Quinn got into a car accident just to save me. You should give her a bigger bonus."

An overwhelming sense of absurdity washed over Quinn.

In the heart of the son she had risked her life to save, was she really only worthy of being a nanny?

Then who held the position of mother in his heart? Was it Charlotte Scott?

A sharp pain pierced her heart. Quinn bit her lower lip hard, barely managing to hold back the questions that almost burst out of her.

She turned her gaze toward Daniel, who had remained silent the entire time.

She wanted to know if she had a place in the heart of this man, who had been her husband for seven years, or if she meant nothing to him, just like their son.

Meeting her gaze, Daniel remained silent for a moment. Without a word, he took Levi by the hand and led him out of the room.

Quinn's heart sank inch by inch.

No denial was the best possible answer.

Enduring the fierce pain throbbing through her body, she got out of bed and pressed against the hospital door.

Through the glass window, she saw Daniel crouch down. Suppressing his anger, he asked, "Levi, why did you lie and say that your mom is a nanny?"

Levi pouted, a look of grievance covering his small face.

"I want Aunt Charlotte to be my mom. I'm always so happy when I spend time with her. She's not like Mom, who's always bossy and makes me angry.

"Besides, Aunt Charlotte can play the piano. Mom stays only at home. She doesn't know how to do anything."

Hearing her son personally admit that he wanted Charlotte to be his mother, Quinn felt as though all the strength in her body drained away. She slid weakly to the floor behind the door.

So... she had not misheard.

Levi actually liked Charlotte so much that he wanted to demote her, his own mother, to nanny just to make room for Charlotte.

Upon hearing Charlotte's name, Daniel's anger softened considerably, though his face remained serious.

"Even so, you should not lie."

"Mom doesn't know who she is right now," Levi clutched his dad's hand and begged. "Please, Dad. Aunt Charlotte said that she also wants to be my mom. Now that we finally have this chance, will you please just play along with me?"

"Besides, you're clearly very happy when you're with Aunt Charlotte too. It is only a white lie, and Mom has amnesia. Nothing bad will happen."

Daniel was clearly swayed by his words. He hesitated for a long moment before he finally nodded.

"Fine. However, it can only be for one week. After that, regardless of whether your mother recovers her memory or not, Aunt Charlotte cannot be your mother anymore."

Seeing that he agreed, Levi jumped up and down in pure excitement.

"Awesome! Let us go find Aunt Charlotte right now and tell her the good news!"

After saying that, he enthusiastically pulled Daniel away.

The two of them completely forgot about Quinn, who had just been through a severe car accident and was still lying in a hospital bed.

Hearing the footsteps fading into the distance, Quinn suddenly let out a laugh. Big drops of tears fell from her eyes and splattered onto the cold floor.

She had never expected that a simple test would reveal the true faces of this father and son.

Neither the husband she had been married to for seven years nor the son she had meticulously taken care of for five years had a place for her in their hearts.

The happy, perfect family she thought she had was nothing more than a complete joke.

At that exact moment, her cell phone rang loudly.

It was a call from the Medical Research Institute.

"Quinn, have you thought it over? Do you want to join this project?"

Quinn looked at the wallpaper on her phone screen, which was a photo of their family of three. Nothing but emptiness remained in her eyes.

"Yes, please, Professor."

In the quiet room, her voice sounded light yet incredibly resolute.

"Before the project begins, I hope you can erase all of my personal information."

Chapter 2

On the other end of the line, Professor Hans sounded quite surprised.

"However, if you do that, your existence will be completely wiped away. Even your husband and son won't know where you are. Didn't you reject our invitation before, just for them? Why the sudden change of heart now?"

Quinn tightened her grip on her phone, and memories of the past uncontrollably surged in her mind.

Daniel and Levi had no idea that she had never been a useless housewife.

Seven years ago, she was the youngest doctoral student in pharmaceutical sciences at Eastwood University. She possessed exceptional talent in research and spent almost twenty-four hours a day immersed in the laboratory.

Then came a day when she finished an all-night experiment. She was walking unsteadily along the riverbank when her vision went black, and she collapsed toward the raging river due to exhaustion.

Amid a chorus of piercing screams, she felt a pair of powerful hands firmly grab her before losing consciousness completely.

When she woke up again, she was already lying in a hospital bed. In the adjacent bed was Daniel, covered in scrapes and bruises while nurses applied medicine to his wounds.

Only from the nurses did she learn that at the critical moment Daniel had charged forward and grabbed her.

However, the immense force pulled them both downward, and Daniel had to expend a massive amount of effort to grab a tree branch just a second before they fell into the water, barely stabilizing them both.

Seeing her grateful yet remorseful gaze, Daniel comforted her, even though the wounds on his own body were still bleeding. "It's fine. Just be careful when you walk next time."

In that moment, the man's image quietly settled into Quinn's mind, which had previously been filled only with scientific research.

On the day she was discharged, she gathered her courage and asked Daniel for his phone number.

Fearing rejection, she quickly explained that she simply wanted an opportunity to repay him for saving her life.

Daniel stared at her in silence for a very long time before he finally asked, "You want to repay me? Then are you willing to marry me?"

Quinn looked at him in sheer disbelief. Once she realized that he was not joking, she heard her own answer amidst the violent, rapid beating in her chest.

"I am."

Just like that, she became Daniel's wife.

Not long after their marriage, she became pregnant with Levi. However, the doctor said her body was weak, so she needed quiet rest to protect the pregnancy and could not overexert herself.

She stroked her lower abdomen, and after immense internal turmoil, she rejected the invitation from the Medical Research Institute and returned home to become a full-time housewife.

Daniel also fulfilled his duties as a husband completely. He accompanied her to every prenatal checkup, brought her gifts whenever he returned from business trips, and even wept out of heartbreak when he saw her in pain during childbirth.

Quinn truly believed that she was fortunate enough to have married for love.

That belief lasted until a heavy, rain-drenched night one month ago, when a thoroughly soaked woman knocked on the villa door.

The moment the door opened, the woman collapsed to the ground. Daniel, who was always calm and composed, showed undisguised panic on his face as he picked up the woman and rushed to his car.

Only then did Quinn learn that this woman was Charlotte, Daniel's first love.

Back then, he had proposed only because Charlotte had cut all ties with him and moved abroad, leaving him wanting a marriage simply to move past the shadow of that heartbreak.

After learning the truth, Quinn received a second invitation from the Medical Research Institute.

Yet, even after learning the real reason behind their marriage, Daniel was still the man she had loved for seven years, and they had a five-year-old son together.

Quinn thought that, no matter what, she and her son must still hold a place in their hearts. She could never make up her mind to leave.

Finally, on this very day, her husband and son helped her make that final decision.

Quinn lowered her eyes, concealing the bitterness in her gaze.

"From now on, those two have nothing to do with me."

Professor Hans let out a soft sigh but did not press her further.

"These procedures will take seven days to complete. When the time comes, I'll send someone to pick you up."

After hanging up the phone, Quinn scrolled through her social media feed.

Charlotte's latest post appeared right at the very top.

[Family.]

The attached photo showed Charlotte and Daniel holding Levi between them, all three faces radiant with bright smiles.

It turned out that the very first thing they rushed to do after leaving her was to take a family photo with Charlotte.

With a soft chime, Charlotte updated her feed once more.

[I truly hope this beautiful dream never ends.]

Quinn stared at those words for a long time as the familiar smiles on those two faces haunted her mind.

Ultimately, she slowly tapped the like button.

Starting today, she no longer wanted to have anything to do with this family.

Chapter 3

Quinn remained in the hospital for three days before her injuries from the car accident mostly healed.

During those three days in the hospital, she saw Charlotte update her social media every single day, each one featuring Daniel and Levi.

On the first day, they made a homemade cake, and Levi fed the very first spoonful to Charlotte.

On the second day, they went camping in the countryside. At night, the two of them held Levi between them inside the tent to look up at the starry sky.

On the third day, the two of them accompanied Levi to an art class. The theme of the lesson was "My Mom", and Levi drew a portrait of Charlotte.

It was not until the day she was discharged that Daniel and Levi finally showed up with Charlotte in tow.

Looking at Quinn's visible, unhealed wounds, Charlotte offered an apologetic smile. "Quinn, I'm so sorry. These past few days have been extremely busy, so I only had time to come to the hospital today."

After speaking, she paused, a subtle glare of scrutiny hidden deep in her eyes as she studied Quinn.

"Levi told me you were in a car accident. How are you feeling now?"

As soon as those words left her mouth, both Daniel and Levi visibly grew tense. Quinn knew they were testing if she had recovered her memory.

"The doctor said I can be discharged. However, I still can't remember anything. Who are you?"

She maintained a blank and bewildered expression as all three people opposite her let out a collective sigh of relief.

Levi took the initiative to hold Charlotte's hand and introduced her to Quinn.

"Nanny Quinn, this is my mom."

Quinn paused in the middle of handling her discharge paperwork.

Even though she had known long ago that Levi wanted Charlotte to be his mother, hearing that word "Mom" with her own ears still caused an uncontrollable surge of sharp pain in her heart.

The child she had nearly risked her life to give birth to had accepted another woman as his mother without the slightest hesitation.

She raised her eyes to look at Daniel, who remained silent at the side.

The moment the man's gaze met hers, his usually steady eyes revealed a rare hint of discomfort before he shifted his gaze away.

The mockery in Quinn's eyes deepened at the sight of her husband standing to the side, tacitly allowing their son's behavior.

How truly pathetic.

Quinn suppressed the ache in her chest and managed to force out a single low "Mm" from her throat.

After finishing the discharge procedures, the group got into the car together.

In the back seat, Levi chatted happily with Charlotte about his favorite animated show, their interaction as natural as a real mother and son.

Quinn sat in the passenger seat and closed her eyes, pretending she heard nothing.

Once the car came to a complete stop, Quinn realized that they had not gone home. Instead, they had arrived at an amusement park.

Levi could not wait to drag Charlotte out of the car, his small face filled with excitement.

"Mom, hurry! I haven't been here in so long! I want to ride the bumper cars with you!"

Hearing this, Quinn froze for a second before a bitter smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

When Levi was three years old, she had often brought him to the amusement park. Each time, he would excitedly pull her along to try every ride in the park.

Back then, Levi would look at her with bright, adoring eyes. "I love coming to the amusement park with you the most, Mom! I'm the happiest kid in the whole world!"

She did not know when it had started, but after that, whenever she brought up the amusement park, Levi would only say, "I don't want to go. The amusement park is so boring."

She had thought that Levi was simply sick of the rides at the amusement park.

However, looking at it now, it was not that the amusement park had lost its appeal to him. He was simply sick and tired of her, the mother who accompanied him there.

Chapter 4

Daniel stepped forward to join the two ahead, but as he passed Quinn, his eyes caught the unhealed scar on her face. The memory of her selflessly pushing Levi out of harm's way during the car accident flashed in his mind. His expression softened as he instructed her.

"You were just discharged from the hospital, so how about you wait for us in the lounge? It'll be enough to have Charlotte and me accompanying Levi."

Quinn tugged her lips into a mocking smile. "I understand. I won't intrude upon your 'family of three.'"

Daniel had not expected such a response. He looked down at her, discovering that the eyes once filled with endless tenderness now held nothing but utter emptiness.

Inevitably, his heart trembled. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he only gave her a deep, complex look.

"Certain things... are not as you see them."

Hearing those words, Quinn could barely hold back a laugh.

He was the one who had permitted Levi's proposal and allowed Charlotte to replace her position as the birth mother and legal wife, yet who was he putting on this reluctantly forced act for now?

"Daniel, weren't you the one who allowed all of this?"

Daniel's pupils contracted, and a flash of panic, one that even he himself failed to notice, passed through his eyes.

Why did Quinn say that? Could she have recovered her memory?

Just as he was about to press her further, Quinn turned and walked toward the lounge as if nothing had happened. He was close to following her, but Levi's call rang out from ahead.

Looking at the woman's calm back, his racing heartbeat gradually slowed to a normal pace.

Quinn loved him and Levi so deeply. If she had recovered her memory and seen Levi calling another woman "Mom", how could she possibly remain so calm? Perhaps he had simply misheard her just now.

With that, he hesitated no longer and quickened his pace to catch up with the two in front.

Through the lounge window, Quinn watched the distant figures of the three walking side by side.

Levi held Charlotte's and Daniel's hands, bouncing happily between them. Charlotte leaned down to carefully wipe sweat from his forehead with a tissue while Daniel watched them with tenderness.

What a happy family.

She lowered her eyes, which subconsciously squinted as a sudden flash of light stung them.

It was the wedding ring she had always worn.

From the very moment she put on this ring, she had embarked on this marriage she had looked so forward to. Yet today, seven years later, this marriage had clearly turned into a complete joke.

She pulled off the ring. With a crisp clang, she threw it into the trash can.

Chapter 5

It was not until the sky turned dark that the three of them finally came out of the amusement park.

Levi had played for the entire afternoon and was covered in sweat. He was the first to jog over to the lounge and sit down.

Seeing someone selling ice cream, his eyes lit up. He pointed at the vendor and ordered Quinn.

"Nanny Quinn, I want ice cream! Get some for me right now!"

After saying that, he muttered softly to himself.

"You're just a nanny now, not my mom. You can't control me."

Because Levi had suffered a difficult birth, his health had been fragile since infancy. The doctor had explicitly instructed them to pay close attention to his health and try their best to keep him from falling ill.

Over the past five years of caring for him, she had poured all of her energy into him.

She would wake up four times a night to check his blankets, study nutritional guides to prepare balanced meals, and take him out for gentle exercise to build his immunity.

Right now, eating ice cream while drenched in sweat would make it extremely easy for Levi to catch a cold. In the past, Quinn would have firmly refused and gently coaxed him while handing over a cup of water instead.

Now, however, her gaze swept over the beads of sweat on his forehead, and she merely replied calmly, "Alright."

Levi widened his eyes in absolute disbelief. Could amnesia really turn a mother into a completely different person?

He could not help asking again, "Really?"

Quinn bought an ice cream, handed it to him, and proved her answer through her action.

"From now on, I won't stop you from getting anything you want."

Including wanting Charlotte to be your mother.

Daniel walked over, saw the ice cream in his son's hand, and frowned. He subconsciously looked at Quinn and asked, "Why are you letting him eat ice cream?"

"He wanted it."

Daniel was nowhere near satisfied with this response. He stared at the calm-faced woman before him with a heavy gaze.

Quinn had never allowed their son to eat ice cream while dripping with sweat before.

Even though she had lost her memory, this was the child she had carried for nine months. Was there really not a single trace of maternal instinct left inside her?

Charlotte's eyes flickered as she witnessed this scene. She wiped the sweat from Levi's forehead and offered a thoughtful suggestion.

"Daniel, let us head back. Levi is exhausted after playing for the entire afternoon."

Levi also chimed in beside them, clamoring to go home.

Perhaps because he was exhausted from playing, Levi fell into a deep sleep in Charlotte's arms the moment he stepped into the car.

Quinn looked at the "mother and son" embracing each other in the rearview mirror. She tugged at the corner of her mouth and shifted her gaze out the window.

At that exact moment, an out-of-control heavy truck suddenly hurtled toward them!

The driver instinctively yanked the steering wheel hard to dodge it, and the car slammed violently into a roadside utility pole, its front hood crushed out of shape.

"Mom, are you okay?!"

Quinn was sitting in the front passenger seat. The deployed airbag struck her, leaving her mind muddled and dizzy. Hearing Levi's panicked cries, she subconsciously searched for his figure.

When she struggled to turn her body around, she discovered that Levi was holding Charlotte's hand, staring with eyes full of worry at a bloody scrape caused by a shard of broken glass on her palm.

Anxious beyond measure, Levi kept tugging at Daniel's sleeve.

"Dad, Mom's bleeding! We have to take her to the hospital right now!"

Charlotte was also trembling all over from fear, her eyes bloodshot.

Daniel looked at Quinn sitting in the front seat, a flash of struggle passing through his eyes.

"But..."

"Nanny Quinn has an airbag. She'll be fine!"

Before he could finish, Levi impatiently interrupted him. He pulled both him and Charlotte straight out the door to exit the car. "Mom needs her hands to play the piano. She cannot suffer even the slightest injury!"

"Daniel, my hand..." Charlotte's choked sob caused Daniel to make up his mind.

"Quinn, wait here for the rescue team."

After saying that, he took Charlotte and Levi, hailed a taxi, and left.

Pinned in the passenger seat and unable to move, Quinn could only watch as the three figures walked away. The father and son shielded Charlotte tightly between them, never looking back even once.

When a car accident had occurred back then, she had been willing to push Levi away without caring for her own life. Yet now, this father and son were not even willing to reach out a hand to pull her out of the vehicle.

A desolate smile pulled at the corners of Quinn's lips.

The very last shred of attachment she held in her heart for them had been completely broken.

Chapter 6

When the rescue workers pulled her out of the car, they asked, according to standard procedure, "Do you need us to notify your family?"

Quinn was silent for a second before she shook her head.

"No need. I don't have a family."

A husband and a son who discarded her life without a second thought did not deserve to be called her family.

She endured the dizziness following the impact all by herself and went to the hospital.

Fortunately, her examination revealed no major injuries. She needed only medication and a few days of rest.

After picking up her medicine, she happened to pass by a room where a doctor was tending to Charlotte's wound.

It was merely a shallow scrape that bled just a tiny bit, yet it was enough to sound major alarm bells for the father and son standing beside her.

Levi stared fixedly at the gauze in the doctor's hands, his small face scrunched up tight.

"Uncle, will a scar be left on my mom's palm?"

Daniel could not help but speak up to remind the doctor as well. "She needs to play the piano. Please handle it carefully."

Hearing this, the doctor teased them with a broad smile.

"It's truly rare to see a husband and son who care this much. Rest assured, a tiny wound like this will not leave a scar."

Quinn stood outside the door and lowered her eyes to conceal the mockery beneath. Yes, they were truly a good husband and son.

She withdrew her gaze, turned around, and prepared to leave.

"Quinn?!"

"Nanny Quinn?!"

Two voices carrying unshakeable surprise sounded behind her.

"Quinn, how did you get to the hospital? Did you get checked out? Are you alright?"

Daniel reacted first and could not help asking, a trace of guilt hidden deep within his eyes.

"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Horton, but I'm fine."

Her address to him caused Daniel to freeze.

Even though he knew that Quinn's current identity was the Hortons' nanny, hearing her call him "Mr. Horton" with such cold distance made his heart feel indescribably complex.

He wanted to speak, but looking at her emotionless expression, the words caught in his throat, leaving him unable to say a word.

At that moment, an urgent phone call came through.

There was a sudden emergency at the company, so Daniel had no choice but to leave first, letting them return home on their own.

Back at the villa, Levi took the initiative to pull Charlotte upstairs to rest.

Quinn watched helplessly as Charlotte walked straight into the bedroom that originally belonged to her.

After settling Charlotte down, Levi jogged right back downstairs. He pointed at the nanny's room on the ground floor and spoke to Quinn.

"Nanny Quinn, this is your room."

Quinn gave him a calm glance. "Alright."

For some unknown reason, Levi's face suddenly changed. He glared at her angrily for a moment before running off.

Quinn did not care and pushed open the door to the nanny's room.

In just three days of her absence, all of her clothes and daily necessities had been moved here from the master bedroom. It seemed they were truly putting on a complete act.

Over the next few days, Quinn dutifully played her role as the nanny.

When Levi suffered a high fever that night from eating ice cream, she merely instructed Charlotte on how to reduce the child's fever, no longer staying awake all night to watch over him like she used to.

When Daniel returned home late after a business dinner, she set out a glass of water, no longer bothering to prepare a hangover smoothie.

...

This continued until Levi's birthday.

In all the previous years, Quinn would hold Levi's hand to greet the guests at the entrance. This year, however, Levi could not wait to drag Charlotte toward the front door early in the morning.

As he passed Quinn, he deliberately paused and said in a solemn tone, "Nanny Quinn, Mom and I are going to greet my classmates. You can just stay in the kitchen to help cook. You don't need to come to the living room."

Hearing this, a sarcastic smile tugged at the corner of Quinn's mouth.

She knew that Levi was terrified his classmates would see her and ask him right in front of her why his mother had changed, which would blow his and Daniel's lie wide open.

This son of hers had truly spared no effort to let Charlotte be his mother for these seven days.

However, it did not matter anyway. Soon, she would stop being his mother for real.

Quinn lowered her eyes and softly agreed.

A flash of triumph passed through Charlotte's eyes, yet she put on a troubled front and said, "Levi, your mom..."

Seeing the nervousness in Levi's eyes, she curved her lips and twisted her words around at the last second.

"Your Nanny Quinn has taken care of you for five years. Won't it hurt her feelings if we don't let her join your birthday party?"

Levi froze, a subtle hint of conflict surfacing on his small face.

Before he could speak, Quinn said calmly, "It won't. Don't worry, I won't go to the front."

A son who did not love her was not worth her grief.

After saying that, she did not give him another glance and walked straight into the kitchen.

A short while later, the melodious sound of a piano echoed from the living room.

Once the piece concluded, a burst of applause erupted from the children, accompanied by Levi's excited cheer. "Thank you, Mom! This is the best birthday present ever!"

During this time, the other staff in the kitchen stole sympathetic glances at Quinn from time to time.

She ignored every single one of them, turning a blind eye, and calmly helped prepare the dishes.

The very next second, however, screams and cries echoed from the living room. Before Quinn could figure out what was happening, a small figure slammed into her, sending her staggering backward.

Levi was like an enraged little lion, glaring as he demanded an answer from her.

"Why did you add mango juice to my mom's drink?!"

Chapter 7

Quinn's lower back slammed right into the corner of the table. Excruciating pain swept across her body, and cold sweat instantly broke out on her forehead.

She struggled to support her body and explained, "I didn't do it."

Levi, however, did not believe her. Disregarding her repeated explanations, he ordered the bodyguards to drag her to the living room.

At this moment, red rashes covered Charlotte's entire body, and she lay in Daniel's arms with a deathly pale face.

"Quinn, I never expected you to be so malicious," Daniel's voice said, suppressing extreme rage.

"Daniel..." Charlotte spoke weakly. "Perhaps... Ms. Quinn didn't mean to do it."

Seeing her weak, threadlike state, Levi felt so heartbroken that tears welled up in his eyes.

"Mom, stop speaking up for her! She was in the kitchen the whole time. She definitely wanted to harm you, so she added the mango juice!"

Quinn suddenly found the situation deeply ironic.

Whenever anything happened to Charlotte, it was always her fault in their eyes. Yet they forgot that she was currently merely a nanny for the Hortons. What reason would a simple nanny have to harm the Mrs. Horton?

Her lower back was still throbbing with pain, but she repeated once more, "I didn't do it."

"Shut up! Mom's already like this, yet you're still denying it!" Levi yelled at her, completely consumed by anger. "Dad, she harmed Mom! We should punish her!"

Daniel's fists clenched subconsciously. He looked at Quinn with complex eyes, but noticing the person in his arms growing weaker by the second, he closed his eyes and said in a deep voice, "Alright."

With that, he picked Charlotte up and rushed toward the hospital.

"Nanny Quinn," Levi waved his small hand with a stern face, signaling two bodyguards to pin Quinn down on both sides. "You taught me that if someone does something wrong, they must accept their punishment."

Immediately, he instructed a staff member to bring over a glass of milk.

Quinn looked at Levi in sheer disbelief. She had a severe dairy allergy, and Levi knew this!

She struggled with all her strength but was no match for the bodyguards' firm grip. The moment the milk entered her mouth, she felt her throat close, and her entire body collapsed onto the floor.

Through her blurred vision, she saw the cold indifference on Levi's face.

Her own son had personally forced her to drink milk that could trigger a fatal reaction, all for the sake of another woman. How laughably tragic that he had become the sharpest blade aimed straight at her heart.

Quinn could no longer hold on. Her vision went black, and she lost consciousness.

When she woke up again, she was already lying in a hospital bed.

Seeing her open her eyes, Daniel immediately nudged Levi, whose small face was tense.

"Apologize to Nanny Quinn."

"I'm sorry," Levi said so quietly that one could hardly hear.

A deeply sarcastic smile tugged at the corner of Quinn's mouth.

One of them had permitted her punishment, while the other had personally triggered her allergic reaction. Who were they putting on this act for now?

"I didn't expect the punishment Levi mentioned to be..." Daniel wanted to explain.

"Rest assured, though. You were brought to the hospital in time, and the doctor said it was nothing major. Levi only wanted to vent his frustration on Charlotte's behalf. If you hadn't added mango juice to Charlotte's drink, this wouldn't have happened—"

"I know I was wrong," Quinn interrupted his words calmly.

Daniel froze, and Levi looked at her with a bewildered expression.

She repeated once more, "I already know I was wrong."

Her mistake was being in this marriage and giving birth to a son who did not love her.

The expressions on both their faces softened considerably.

Levi muttered softly, "Hmph. If you had just admitted your mistake earlier, you wouldn't have suffered so much."

"That's good. How are you feeling n—" Before Daniel could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by the ringing of his cell phone.

He did not know what was said on the other end, but undisguised joy surfaced on his face.

"Alright, I'll be right there."

After hanging up the phone, he looked at Levi. "The doctor said Mom's awake."

Levi jumped up in pure excitement and immediately pulled Daniel's hand toward the door.

"Then let us go and find her! She's so weak right now and will definitely be sad if we aren't by her side!"

Quinn lay in the hospital bed, listening to the hasty footsteps of the two leaving, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

Just then, her phone chimed.

[Quinn, your ride has arrived.]

At that moment, Quinn revealed her first genuine smile in days.

She processed her discharge paperwork on her own. Just as she was about to go downstairs, she spotted two familiar figures at the corner of the stairwell.

Daniel crouched down, looking at Levi with a serious expression.

"Levi, today's the last day for Aunt Charlotte to be your mom. Tonight, we must tell your mother the entire truth."

Levi twirled his fingers, nodding somewhat reluctantly.

"Alright. I'm already very happy that Aunt Charlotte could be my mom for seven days."

As he spoke, a hint of anxiety appeared on his face. He grabbed Daniel's hand with urgency and asked, "Dad, but I triggered Mom's allergy today. What if Mom gets angry with me after she finds out the truth?"

Daniel fell silent for a moment before reassuring him, "She won't. You only wanted to make her realize her mistake. Besides, you're her child. She won't be angry with you."

Hearing Daniel's reassurance, Levi finally put his mind at ease.

Looking at the father and son, Quinn felt no further emotion in her heart. She need not be angry. After all, starting today, they had nothing to do with her anymore.

Withdrawing her gaze, Quinn hailed a taxi straight back to the villa.

After quickly packing her luggage, she stepped into the private car sent to pick her up.

As the vehicle started, she took one last look at the home she had lived in for seven years.

'Daniel, Levi, I'm granting your wish and giving up the positions of wife and mother. From now on, we will never see each other again.'
