Walking Away From the Underboss
Chapter 1
At the annual mafia charity gala, my fiancé Vincent dropped three million dollars on the most coveted antique necklace in the room.
Everyone looked at me with smiles and congratulations. My friend grabbed my arm, whispering, "Your patience finally paid off! All those years of kissing his feet weren't for nothing!"
Then he turned around and handed the necklace straight to Bianca, the daughter of our rival family.
I opened my mouth, ready to remind him that I was his fiancée. But Vincent just threw me a look of pure disgust. In front of everyone, he sneered that I was trash with zero class and couldn't handle a real crowd.
Humiliated and crushed, I went onto the dark web and posted a fifty-dollar bounty for help. That was how I matched with Gabe—the feared, ruthless enforcer everyone talked about.
A man infamous for his cold blood turned out to be shockingly gentle with me.
He never told me I wasn't enough. Instead, he just held my grip and whispered, "Keep your hand steady, Princess."
For the first time in my life, I realized I could actually be happy.
So when Vincent came crawling back to fix things, he was stunned to find out the truth: this time, I was the one walking away.
Chapter 1
"Three million dollars! Sold to Mr. Vincent for tonight's crown jewel!"
The auctioneer's loud voice echoed across the mafia's annual charity gala hall.
Under everyone's eyes, my fiancé Vincent stood up gracefully. He took the sparkling antique diamond necklace and walked straight toward Bianca, the daughter of our rival family.
He gently put the necklace around Bianca's neck and spoke softly, his voice echoing in the room: "Only a fierce, royal woman like Bianca deserves to wear the Blood Tear."
Bianca leaned close to him, her eyes full of provocation aimed at me.
Thunderous applause broke out. Countless mocking and pitying eyes pierced me as I sat in the corner.
I gripped my skirt, stood up, and walked to Vincent. "Vincent, tonight is the Rossi family's event. I am your fiancée. You gave the main prize to her. What about me?"
Vincent didn't even look at me properly. His eyes held pure disgust. He waved his hand impatiently. "Shut up and stop embarrassing me. If not for your father, you wouldn't even set foot in this room. You're completely useless and embarrassing."
He pulled out his encrypted phone and cast a screenshot onto the big screen in the hall.
It was my dark web account's latest post:
[50-dollar reward: How do I act at an auction to fit the status of the Underboss's fiancée?]
"Take a look, everyone. This is the eldest daughter of the Rossi family," Vincent scoffed. "She paid fifty bucks on the dark web to ask stray dogs how to be a classy woman. Does someone like her deserve an explanation?"
Laughter flooded the room, threatening to drown me.
Humiliation cut through me like a blade. I bit my tongue and retreated to the back dressing room amidst the mockery.
Just as I shut the door, my phone vibrated hard. A private message popped up on the dark web—someone actually accepted my stupid fifty-dollar bounty.
His message was short: [I get paid, I deliver. Find a quiet spot. Sending files now.]
I hid in the room, typing with shaking fingers: [I can't control anything tonight. I can't even command the lowest soldiers...]
He replied instantly: [You are not weak. The man leading you is just a coward.]
A second later, a massive file hit my screen: [Rossi Family Underground Empire: Strategic Overhaul].
I opened it, and my eyes went wide. The report analyzed my bloodline advantages, my father's hidden weapons supply line, and a plan for me to take back three major docks in one month! For the first time, I realized how much power was sleeping inside me.
Before I could process it, a loyal guard sent me a screenshot.
It was Bianca's private post. The photo showed Vincent renting out the entire VIP lounge just for her, personally fastening her necklace.
Bianca wrote: [True love is when he chooses me over the entire world.]
I let out a cold laugh, tears brimming in my eyes. Vincent knew how to protect a woman's pride. He just never saw me as a human being.
Right then, a heavy notification hit every senior member's phone: [The battle for the next supreme leader of the Rossi family starts now. Open to all members. Time limit: Seven days.]
Seeing the message, I finally understood why Vincent treated me this way. Bianca brought her family's heavy weapons network to the table. His drunken words still rang in my ears: "If I marry her, I get half the city's docks! You don't even shoot a gun. What do you bring me besides your father's name?"
He planned this all along.
My fingers shook on the phone. I almost swiped it away.
Then the dark web terminal popped up again: [Sign up. Follow my seven-day plan, and I will help you tear them down.]
Looking at those words, the fire in my blood ignited.
The next morning, at the Rossi Family Council Hall.
I wore a sharp black suit and signed my name on the entry form in front of everyone: Clara Rossi.
"Clara? Are you crazy?!"
Vincent walked in, saw my name, and laughed out loud. He held Bianca close, staring at me with pure disdain. "Throwing a tantrum at the gala wasn't enough? You want to play with real power? You can't even pull a gun's safety switch. Stop making a fool of yourself."
Bianca giggled beside him, holding my hand fake-warmly. "Clara, Vincent is just looking out for you. You can't handle the blood of the mob. Stay in the estate and be a quiet wife. Leave the shooting to Vincent."
Listening to their mockery, I pulled my hand back and threw away all my past obedience.
"Don't worry about me. We'll see who the real prey is in seven days."
Ding. My phone buzzed with a location from my advisor: [5 PM. Underground Firing Range No. 1. Come out and meet your real Enforcer.]
Chapter 2
Before I could put my phone away, a shadow fell over me.
Vincent glanced at my screen, his face turning dark with pure disgust.
"An Enforcer?" He stepped forward, looking down at me as if he saw a big joke. "Clara, stop lying to yourself. If you weren't the eldest daughter of the Rossi family, you wouldn't survive a single day in the underground world!"
I didn't even give him a second glance. I brushed past his shoulder and walked away in my heels.
5 PM. Underground Firing Range No. 1.
The air smelled heavy of gunpowder and metal.
Whenever I went out with Vincent before, I was just a servant—holding bags, taking drinks, and carrying extra ammo. When he was in a good mood, he said he would teach me to shoot, but he never even unlocked the safety switch for me, saying, "A woman with a gun is useless."
But right now, the man behind me leaned down slightly.
When we first met, he only said his name was Gabe. He gave no other details.
Besides his sharp face, I knew nothing about him. But he knew everything about the mob.
His big, warm hand covered the back of mine, fixing my grip. His deep voice sounded right by my ear, cold yet full of strength: "Don't fear the recoil. Remember, Clara—the bullet doesn't care about Vincent. It only obeys you."
I pulled the trigger. The bullet flew out with a roar, ripping straight through the target a hundred meters away!
In the ringing sound of the gunshot, my eyes grew wet. A rush of pure control surged through my blood.
The next morning, an alert flashed on the gang's channel.
Vincent tagged me in the main group: [Clara, go to the harbor race track at 3 PM to drive the escort car for me. I'm busy today.]
The group stayed dead silent. Everyone was waiting to mock me.
In front of all the gang leaders, I typed two words: [No time.]
Then I added: [I am inspecting my Armory No. 3 this afternoon.]
My phone exploded with a call a second later. Vincent's angry voice roared through the speaker: "Clara! Are you crazy?! You really think that fifty-dollar dark web dog is a big deal? You do whatever he says? Get over here and don't ruin her important work!"
"Her work matters, but my armory doesn't?" I laughed coldly. "Find another driver, Vincent. I'm not your servant."
Driving out of the estate, I glanced out the window. On the high platform of the training ground, Vincent was holding Bianca, helping her tighten her tactical gloves and vest with soft movements.
This was his so-called important work? Training together?
I rolled up my window. The last bit of pain in my heart vanished completely.
That evening, at the core officers' meeting, Gabe typed casually in our encrypted chat: [Tell them your rules, Princess.]
I stood before the room, looking at dozens of tough men with doubtful eyes. I spoke calmly: "I don't play mind games. I only know one thing: as long as your gun is heavy enough, no matter how weak you seem, you can carve out your own territory in the dark."
Silence fell over the room.
When night came, someone posted a map of the candidates' power in the family group.
Gabe posted a dark web screenshot for me: [Armory No. 3 Transfer Complete].
The official seal sat right on it.
The group exploded. Several old officers popped up for the first time:
[She really has the old Godfather's blood! That was fast!]
[Just like the Godfather! We support Princess!]
Before I could reply, Vincent sent a long voice message with a harsh tone: "Don't be fooled! It's just a fake empty shell! Without my team, she can't even read a basic contract!"
Bianca followed with a sad face emoji: "Yes, real deals are harder. Clara, don't make the numbers look too good, or the Elders might audit you."
Looking at their ugly faces, I didn't cry or defend myself like before.
I typed calmly: [Fake or not, let the numbers speak at the first trial.]
I put my phone down into the dark night.
My dark web terminal flashed with Gabe's top-secret message:
[Go to the Vegas casino tomorrow. Don't step back. Show them your fangs.]
Chapter 3
Chips clattered loudly across the Vegas casino.
Up in the top-floor VIP lounge, you could hear a pin drop.
With Gabe directing me from afar, it took me less than two hours to break the old bastard. I got his signature on the deed to Pier No. 1 and forced him to clear three years of bad dark web debts.
Staring at the bright red seal on the agreement, I tasted real, ruthless power for the first time.
On the drive back, I sent the Rossi Family Five-Year Plan directly to the Elders, along with the proof of the Vegas takeover.
Gabe's message sat quietly on my encrypted screen: [You were born to be a queen.]
Three days later, the first trial results dropped: First place, Clara. Second place, Vincent.
Before my men could finish celebrating, the core group chat went dead silent.
An Elder tagged Vincent directly: [Vincent, what do you think of Clara's numbers? Not even the old Godfather moved this fast.]
Ten whole minutes passed before Vincent finally dropped a cold reply: [The numbers look too good. I suggest the Elders audit her accounts. Don't let someone fool us with fake deals traded for family secrets.]
The whole chat exploded. As the Underboss, his first move was to publicly accuse me of working with enemies and faking my wins!
Right on cue, Bianca sent me a private text: [Congrats, Clara! But I'm dying to know—how does fifty dollars get you a mastermind who controls guns and docks? Is he some dangerous mob boss playing you?]
Before I could reply, a screenshot of our chat "accidentally" leaked into the main group.
The crowd turned on me instantly.
[I knew it! The girl couldn't even read a ledger before!]
[Fifty bucks? She probably traded her body for those secrets!]
[Selling out the Rossi family to outsiders! What a disgrace!]
Vile accusations flooded the screen. Dark web forums exploded with hit pieces, plastering me with disgusting labels: traitor, whore, fraud.
My phone vibrated like crazy as Vincent's call slammed in.
"Clara! What the hell did you do?!" His voice roared with pure rage. "You threw away your dignity just to win? You took our core secrets and fed them to a dog outside? Don't gamble with the Rossi family's life just to show off!"
Listening to his self-righteous rage, my heart froze. I laughed back coldly. "Vincent, you think I faked it too? You think I can only win by selling my body?"
"You couldn't even pull a gun's safety switch!" Vincent interrupted with sharp disgust. "Without me holding your hand, you're nothing! Who are you trying to fool?"
Those words cut through the last remaining piece of my past with him like a dull blade.
I hung up on him.
At 3 PM, bad news hit.
A mandatory call from the Elders' enforcement team forced its way onto my screen. A cold, mechanical voice boomed out: "Clara Rossi, you have been reported for working with enemies, faking records, and making illegal deals. Report to the Council Room within one hour. Failure to appear will be treated as treason."
Trapped on all sides, ice ran through my veins.
Then my dark web phone lit up. Gabe's message broke through the dark: [Don't be afraid. You didn't stand up because of a man. You are finally in the right place. Go tear their lies apart.]
Looking at those words, every doubt vanished from my eyes.
A second later, Vincent's high-priority text flashed on my screen: [I'll walk into the Council Room with you. Nobody knows you better than I do. After all, you are still my fiancée.]
Chapter 4
Outside the Council Room, Vincent blocked my way.
He put on a fake, worried face. "Clara, I know you wanted to prove you're good enough for me. But faking deals is wrong. Admit it now before it gets worse."
"Who do you think you are to question me?" I slapped his hand away. "You're just the Underboss. Respect your place and address me as Lady Clara."
Vincent's face darkened, his eyes turning mean. He adjusted his tie and sneered, "Don't throw away my kindness, Clara. Let me see who saves you inside."
Inside the Council Room, the air was freezing cold.
Three Elders sat high up, surrounded by armed guards. The Chief Elder slammed his gavel down with a loud bang: "Clara Rossi, you are accused of working with enemies, faking your wins, and selling out the Rossi family. This is treason!"
"I didn't."
I raised my head and threw my encrypted tablet onto the table. The deed to Vegas Pier No. 1 and all payment records popped up on the big screen. "The deed and payment records are fully legal. The dark web contract is clear. Where is the enemy?"
The Chief Elder narrowed his eyes. "Fifty dollars? A girl who never shot a gun took down that old man in Vegas for fifty dollars? That makes no sense."
"Because I was blind before and trusted the wrong person. I underestimated myself," I said, glaring at Vincent.
Vincent stepped forward, bowing to the Elders with a pained look: "Elders, as the Underboss, I must speak truth. Clara has the Godfather's blood, but she used to shake when holding a gun. She could never pull off this tactic with a fifty-dollar advisor."
He paused, his voice turning heavy: "I suspect she's controlled by outside forces. She might have leaked our main firepower map."
He slammed the trap shut, pinning the crime of treason onto me!
I laughed out of sheer anger, staring straight into his eyes. "Vincent, you sound so noble, but you just can't accept the truth—without you holding me back, I do better! My success crushed your weak pride!"
Vincent's jaw tightened, his eyes filled with pure hate.
"Clara, how can you say that to Vincent?" Bianca appeared at the door, her eyes red, dropping poison with every word. "Vincent is doing this for the family. You never even came to meetings before, and now you are so brutal... We are just worried you were used by some dangerous mob group."
Calling it a "dangerous mob group" turned the issue from poor skill straight into treason.
The Elders' faces changed. The Chief Elder slammed the table: "Enough! Freeze all of Clara's power and lock her first-place rank until we investigate! Hand over the advisor's real name and all logs now!"
When I walked out of the Council Room, heavy rain was pouring down.
Along the hallway, guards threw mocking looks at me, talking loudly without care.
"I told you she sold herself. Turns out she's just a traitor!"
"Without Underboss Vincent, she is nothing! Bringing shame to the Rossi family!"
My phone buzzed. Old officers who once swore loyalty to my father called me with cold voices: "Lady Clara, for your father's sake, just admit it and step down. Don't push us to the edge."
My hands turned cold as ice.
A black umbrella shaded me from the rain.
Vincent stood in front of me with the umbrella, looking down like a savior. "Clara, do you hear them? Nobody believes you. Listen to me, come back inside and confess. Blame everything on that dark web advisor. Say he forced you. For your father's sake, I will save your life."
Looking at his selfish, fake face, a cold smile touched my lips.
"Blame the advisor?" I stepped closer, my eyes dead cold. "Vincent, did you forget? You were the one who threw me away like trash. Who are you to act like a savior now?"
Vincent's eyes narrowed. He froze on the spot, his face turning pale as paper.
In the dead silence, the dark web terminal in my pocket buzzed hard.
[I'm here. Clara, hold your gun tight. Nobody touches you today.]
