I Hid My $8 Million Bonus, and My Wife's Family Showed Their True Colors

Summary

"Ethan, Kayla and I picked out a car. It's the newest domestic EV, $148,000 out the door. Just round it down for us. $140,000 will do."

My brother-in-law, Tyler, sat with one leg crossed over the other, spitting sunflower seed shells all over the floor as if he were discussing whether we'd have rice or noodles for dinner.

My wife, Lindsay, sat beside him. She nudged me with her elbow and lowered her voice, but her tone was full of an entitled command: "What are you just standing there for? He's talking to you. It's only $140,000. Didn't you get a $150,000 year-end bonus this year? Give it to him. That still leaves us $10,000, which is plenty for the holidays."
