dpkg: error: dpkg database lock is locked by another process – error

If you have a debian or ubuntu server and you keep getting this error when you try to install updates or a new package:

dpkg: error: dpkg database lock is locked by another process
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Do yourself a favor just reboot the system and do the update right after reboot. On the internet they tell you to do a bunch of crap that either messes-up your system or doesn’t work.
