Fedora 38 will get gnome 44. I like the way the developers of Fedora implemented gnome 42 in Fedora 37. Cinnamon Desktop that is.

exactly, like most linux distros want to basically look like windows which is okay for some people but I dont like it, I love the simplicity of gnome on Fedora.

have you tried KDE Neon dang they did a awesome job with the new update and Plasma. I know recent a few of my buddies have moved from Fedora to KDE Neon and say it’s better so I gave it a try and I got to say so far so good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnNmXhUxa30

If you turn your old laptop in to a server/media server you can close the lid with this command sudo nano /etc/systemd/logind.conf HandleLidSwitch=ignore

Dang just tried Fedora Cinnamon. They have done a great job with it. Going to give it a few weeks and if I still like it I’m sold on it. https://spins.fedoraproject.org/prerelease
